SMART Controller Saves Water and Money.
Chances are you have a sprinkler timer in your garage that turns your sprinklers on and off based on a set schedule that you set. Imagine a timer that takes 9 pieces of critcal data about your landscaping ... things like soil and plant type, percentage of grass to plants, absorption rates other critical data and compares it to a local weather station data via satellite to then determine if your sprinklers should turn on ... or not!
SMART Controller technology has been around for several years, but it’s now becoming affordable for commercial and residential use. Cranbrook teamed up with Toro and Irritrol to install SMART Controllers at seven Cranbrook properties. Based on our research, we could save as much as 30% of our annual water costs, but conservatively, we’re targeting 20%.
Allowing critical pieces of weather data to determine when we do and do not water is helping reduce our water use and providing other benefits as well. We know that water can do serious damage over time to asphalt, concrete and other hardscape. Watering when landscaping needs the water as opposed to a set schedule regardless of weather conditions is helping Cranbrook save water, money and the environment.
If 2009's rainy season doesn't produce, you may want to consider installing SMART Controller technology at your home. We're using it with favorable results, and it's easy to program and cost-effective.
